The MACI-II continues to help practitioners assess personality patterns, expressed concerns, and clinical symptoms while its therapeutic focus will assist in making reliable diagnostic and treatment decisions. The MACI-II represents a significant update to the original MACI to better reflect modern clinical practice and adolescent issues. It was developed to address changes in diagnostic criteria (specifically the DSM-5), incorporate new research, and better reflect the current challenges faced by teenagers.
Key Updates and Improvements include:
Updated Normative Data: The MACI-II uses a new normative sample of 1,143 adolescents. This data is more representative of the current clinical adolescent population, which makes the results more accurate and relevant.
Reading Level: The reading level was lowered from a 6th-grade level on the original MACI to a more accessible 4th-grade level on the MACI-II.
New Scales: The MACI-II added three new Clinical Syndrome scales to reflect current diagnostic thinking:
Disruptive Mood Dysregulation
Post-Traumatic Stress
Reality Distortions
Revised Scales: Several existing scales were revised or renamed to be more precise. For example, the Eating Dysfunctions scale on the MACI was updated to Binge-Eating Patterns on the MACI-II to specifically focus on binge eating and bulimic symptoms.
Validity Measures: The MACI-II improved its validity scales with the addition of Inconsistency and Response Negativity scales to better detect invalid test-taking patterns.
ASSESSMENT SCALES
The MACI-II contains 57 scales in four clinically relevant categories.
11 Personality Patterns Scales
4 Expressed Concerns Scales
9 Clinical Syndromes Scales
33 Grossman Personality Facet Scales
3 Validity Scale
AREAS OF APPLICATION
The MACI–II is designed to provide information about adolescents undergoing psychological or psychiatric assessment or treatment across a variety of settings and applications, including outpatient clinics, mental health centres, schools, hospitals, independent and group practice offices, residential facilities, and forensic settings. This versatile instrument is essential in helping to:
Conduct detailed evaluations to confirm diagnostic hypotheses
Create individualised treatment plans
Measure progress before, during and after treatment.
REPORT OPTIONS
The MACI-II offers the following two reports:
The Profile Report: provides base rate and percentile rank scores for all 24 scales in an easy-to-read graph. This report can help clinicians quickly identify clients who may require more intensive evaluation.
The Interpretive Report: provides an in-depth analysis of personality and symptom dynamics in addition to the base rate and percentile scores. Written with a therapeutic focus, the Interpretive Report provides the clinician with a foundation upon which diagnostic impressions and treatment plans can readily be made and includes a comprehensive guide for therapeutic management.
